Bridge Engineering Association Achievement Awards

In recognition of international bridge design and bridge engineering research achievements, the Bridge Engineering Association grants a Bridge Design and a Bridge Engineering Research Award to individuals that have made significant contributions to the field of bridge engineering. The awards are presented every other year at the New York City Bridge Conference. Nominations will be accepted for live individuals only. To nominate an individual for his/her professional accomplishments in Bridge Design or Bridge Engineering Research, please submit your letter of nomination and nominee’s resume to the Bridge Engineering Association via email to kmahmoud@bridgeengineer.org.

Bridge Design Award

The Bridge Design Award is presented to recognize an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievements and eminence in the design and structural engineering of bridge structures. The nominee’s experience should reflect recognized contributions in advancing the state-of-the-art in bridge design, citing major bridge design work conceived and led by the nominee.

Bridge Engineering Research Award

The Bridge Engineering Research Award is presented to recognize an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the field of bridge engineering research. The nominee’s experience should reflect recognized contributions in advancing the-state-of-knowledge in bridge engineering research with significant impacts on the practice of the bridge engineering profession.

Theodore V. Galambos, for his pioneering research work in steel bridges analysis and rating.

John E. Breen, for pioneering work in the advancement of precast segmental bridge technology.

John W. Fisher, for cutting-edge research in fatigue prone details that has lengthened service life of bridge structures.
